On September 11, 2006 we commemorated a very
important event, but not the one you are thinking!
Exactly one hundred years ago, on
September 11, 1906, 3000 Indians and Chinese
gathered at the Empire Theatre in Johannesburg,
South Africa to create a plan of action against a
law that would officially make them second class
citizens. This meeting was organized by a person who
would go on to change the course of history and who
became known as the 'father of civil disobedience'.
We know him today as 'Gandhi'.

Pursuit of the Truth

At this meeting, the Gandhian form of civil
disobedience was born. It was called Satyagraha
which translates as ‘pursuit of the truth’, with the
word ‘truth’ meaning ‘the real’ as compared with
‘the unreal’ and the ‘good’ as opposed to the
‘evil’. Gandhi rejected the name ‘civil
disobedience’ because he said there was nothing
disobedient about it and he rejected the name
‘passive resistance’ because he said there was
nothing passive about it.  Gandhi maintained that
life itself is a pursuit of the truth.



Gandhi first called upon all present to pledge non
cooperation with the proposed law, irrespective of
the penalty that they might face which could be
punishment, jail, possibly death. Then the group
debated whether to go so far as to pass the non
cooperation pledge in the name of God himself.
Gandhi was the last to speak, and when he embraced
the idea of passing the resolution to not cooperate
with the new law, ‘with God as a witness’, the crowd
went wild. Satyagraha was born and a struggle began
that lasted 8 years and ended with a new
relationship between the Indians and the whites in
South Africa. With what he learned in South Africa,
Gandhi later returned to India and went on to change
the relationship between the British occupiers and
the Indians, eventually leading to the birth of the
modern Indian state.

Basic Principles

First, the means determine the ends and we can never
use violence as a means to bring about an end like
peace or democracy.


Second, the enemy is ‘evil’ itself, not the
person committing the evil. You must open the door
for your opponent to become your ally. 

Third, we
should realize that our actions have far more
consequences than the immediate, visible results. In
fact, there may be a perception that the action has
failed but we may have accomplished far more than we
ever dreamed of. 

When we touch another
person’s heart, we may not be present to witness a
future change in his behavior or reactions whereas
when we leave behind us a wake of hostility, it is
sure to harden and petrify negative attitudes.


Satyagraha is designed to set in motion
forces or energies that will ultimately lead to a
new equation. It turns sorrow into hope, doubt into
faith, and hate into love. When we remain human and
respect our opponent, it means we profoundly accept
our shared destiny and our responsibility to the
whole. Gandhi believed that there was no situation
in which it would not work. 

In a strategy
like satyagraha, it is possible to lose all the
battles and still win the war.

The potential
difference in terms of the human price in lives that
can be spared by using this technique can be
understood if you realize that when the Algerians
broke away from the French colonialists around the
same time period by violent means nearly a million
lives were lost. There were only a few thousand
lives lost in India in the non-violent struggle for
independence from the British. And today, the
British and the Indians have long since reconciled
their relationship while Algerian and French
relations are still not normalized.

Tampa Civil Disobedience

I would like to tell you about my civil disobedience
arrest in Tampa which I was able to do successfully
by working very closely with Dave Slesinger and Dan
Nalven of 911 Courage.

campaign to call attention to the crimes of 911 and
the constitutional crisis by passing out leaflets
where it is not allowed, on private property, and
using that pretext to get arrested. We are doing
this at the film openings of the 9/11 films that are
coming out in the coming months. Our goal is to have
actions going on simultaneously in 24 states. The
first was
Oliver Stone’s WTC, next is Richard Clarke’s story
in Against All Enemies, and then a film about Daniel
Pearle who was kidnapped and murdered as he followed
the trail of the $100,000 that was transferred to
Mohammed Atta. I want you to know that IS legal to
hand out flyers on public sidewalks and it is
actually harder to get arrested than it is to NOT
get arrested. 


Gandhi was a planner and was deliberate in his
actions and so are we. Our first civil disobedience
action was August 9th. We planned everything very
carefully. To give you an idea, there were
conference calls to organize, also press releases
to write and send out, follow up phone calls,
leaflets to write and print, a web site to set up, 911
activists to rally at the mall. I had a meeting with
the mall manager, the police, and the head of mall
security the day before, where I went over my
intentions and explained my reasoning and showed
them my leaflet. I reassured them that the
protesters who accompanied me were not going to
cause a disturbance. This paved the way for an
experience that was not fearful - for me or for them
- and they arrested me in a humane way. 

You
may be surprised to know that my best ally in the action
was the FOX reporter. Our local FOX news in Tampa is
the most popular news channel and the reporter who
showed up to cover me was already suspicious about
the Official Story. He spent plenty of time with us
there at the mall, and did a very favorable story
which was the lead story on the 6 o’clock news and
it showed building 7 coming down not once, but
twice! He also cast doubt on the story of Mohammed
Atta by mentioning the drugs, drinking, flashy
jewelry and womanizing. 

It was the Best of All
Possible Outcomes. I am still in touch with the FOX
reporter who has asked to be notified of all our 911
meetings and actions and he will cover us whenever
he can. And I phoned the police officer the day
after, to thank her for her professional behavior
and I asked her if she thought the 911 story was a
fraud. She said she has her suspicions but that
police officers have been fired for putting their
opinions out there, like on My Space.com, and that
they have to keep quiet about things.


Thousands of
Tampa Bay residents saw that clip and the response
has been very positive. My alternative materials
building company is building a house for a couple
who are retired police officers and I had never
talked to them about my 9/11 activism and they saw
me get arrested on the news. They gave me their
support and said they wished more people would get
out and act on their beliefs.


This was a lesson to me in how we ought to leave our
preconceptions to one side when we interact with
these media and authority figures. I did not expect
and am gratified to know that an honest and sincere
interaction can bring about the desired result. My
objective is not to go to jail, although the
original satyagraha, the Gandhian version, welcomes
the jail sentence. My objective - and I thank Dave
Slesinger for having the openness to allow
philosophies different from his own to be followed -
is to bring attention to the 9/11 crimes by using
civil disobedience to gain media coverage. I have
yet to chart the course that I intend to follow in
court and there are various options to explore. From the
time I first heard about this civil disobedience
idea and started my inner dialogue and preparation,
until I was lead story on FOX news, only took a few
weeks.

Evolution of the 9/11 Movement

At the Chicago conference in June, I was inspired by
Carol Brouillet’s presentation on the evolution of a
social movement. She recommended a book by Bill
Moyer called ‘Doing Democracy’ and according to the
analysis in that book, we are now at Stage 4 of the
9/11 movement. That is when 30-40% of the public
realizes that there is a societal situation that is
in conflict with our basic human values but that the
people in power are defending. The planning,
execution, and cover up of the demolition of the
Twin Towers and
the deliberate murder of thousands of U.S. citizens
as part of the 'false flag' war provocation
certainly fits this description.

This stage
calls for public actions such as civil disobedience,
strikes, boycotts, marches - and taking these
actions will put the 9/11 issue on to the social
agenda. We are fortunate to have visionaries like
Dave Slesinger and Carol Brouillet to help us find
effective means for profound societal change and I
encourage
you to explore these avenues. 

We do not need
to reinvent the wheel. The process for change is
well established and we can follow a path to certain
success and avoid pitfalls if we plan our actions
and harness the media for our own purposes.
Remember, the media is looking for a story and civil
disobedience calls their attention.


Let us honor the 3000 victims in New York and follow
in the
footsteps of the 3000 brave souls in South Africa
and use the power of our commitment, our will, and
our vision to challenge the Official Story, demand a
new investigation, bring forward the evidence and
use 9/11 Truth to transform our world.


Nothing in my life has ever changed me as radically
as 9/11 Truth and this potential for deep personal
transformation is open to all of us if we choose to
accept reality and work with our God given talents
and the available tools to bring about a better
future.

arrested, we need support staff behind the scenes to
help organize, film, and promote the 9/11 Truth

Satyagraha

Satyagraha is the energy which we develop through
the conscious use of choosing our attitude in the
face of state organized 'terror’ originating from
the opponent. It aims to change people for the
better through non-violent persuasion and the effort
is made to convert the opponent and to touch their
heart. It demands that we respect our opponent and
that we recognize the common humanity that we share
while taking a firm but non-violent position of
non-compliance.
