I believe I can help with character shaping. I have done it before on a
Arabic scripts only, but I think I could improve it to support the
Unicode standard.

I'll also look for means to port it to Python, or at least to link with
a C library. I shall try to work on it this week. I hope some people are
willing to help (or at least to review the outcome).
