Thanks Dinu. In fact I'd be very interested to know whether the same
problem occurs on a Mac.

The attachment at the bottom of the message at
http://two.pairlist.net/pipermail/reportlab-users/2009-May/008302.html
is a very small PDF using that font. The script that generated it is
shown in the message.
