Nobody has managed it yet!

You are assuming that the text metrics and rendering of pygtk is the 
same as in Acrobat Reader.  It clearly isn't.  You won't be able to fix 
this yourself unless you mess with pygtk and discover all the options it 
offers (I haven't a clue on that myself).

More generally, you would need a GUI which supported exactly the same 
rendering model as ReportLab, and I don't know of one.
