Nothing in the GPL prevents you from creating "commercial" applications.
What the GPL prevents you to create is proprietary applications (i.e.
possibly hide the source code and in any case limit use and forbid any
modification or redistribution by the end user).
These are two really different beasts.
IMHO all software should be licensed under the terms of the GNU GPL,
but the choice is up to the RL team.
That being said, because RL already exists under a non-GPL
Free Software license (BSD like), I think that changing the license
to the GNU GPL might create some confusion.
