FWIW. I ran Robin's test on Mac OS X. A 100-step loop around main()
increased the memory footprint the first few steps, then flat-lined (at
5,016 kbytes resident, 22,596 kbytes virtual, according to Apple's
Process Viewer). Python at startup consumes 2,016/18,472 kbytes.

Mac OS X 10.2.3, Python 2.2.2, ReportLab 1.17.
