Personnally I use the Python + PIL + Zope native packages 
for Debian GNU/Linux, so PIL is in /usr/lib/python2.1/site-packages
but some people prefer to use a version of Zope already packaged 
with Python, and install PIL in Zope+Python's subdirectories
(this is probably mostly the case under Windows)

have a look at reportlab/demos/rlzope/ it should handle both cases.
