Reiterating something in an off-list exchange between Jason and myself:
ctypes is in the standard distribution, CFFI is not (at least not yet).
This means ctypes is standard and CFFI is not. Of course CFFI is a
package that can be installed using conda or pip, but it is a package
that must be installed. CFFI is nontheless, at least for me, better
than ctypes as you just use a C prototype for each entry rather than
the argtypes, rettype system that ctypes uses.
