If you are using Platypus (instead of drawing to the canvas directly),
you should try wordaxe (http://deco-cow.sourceforge.net).

It contains a replacement for the Platypus Paragraph class which (as a 
last resort, if it doesn't know how to hyphenate the string) will do 
what you want (split the string by best possible width).
