I am working on a platypus flowable that takes TeX syntax and produces
(hopefully) TeX quality equations. It doesn't require TeX, and doesn't involve
embedding images.
It should be trivial to extract from rst2pdf and adopt for any other users,
since it will be a single self-contained module.
Hopefully, it will be ready this friday.
