Which specific things are you talking about? What would make it harder?
We have 2 C extensions which add substantial performance in one case,
and substantial functionality in another. I'm just talking about having them
included by default, rather than making people follow extra instructions to
compile them.

I presume that if distutils builds it all out of the box on Ubuntu 8.04 (which
several of us now use), and we handle the fonts
and sample text issue in your other email, we're OK?

In any event we should be able to provide a preview distro for comment
in a couple
of days.
