Actually I was running 1.19 not 1.14 as advertised.

Out of curiosity I tried this on a Linux box using the fondu-generated .ttf 
file from the Max and it appears that the registerFont() step isn't required, 
or at least it isn't required to work (I wrapped it in a try...except to 
ignore the ValueError).

Oh well, it works!
