Okay,

In between adrenylin-fueled panic over a strange shift of air making me
believe a lung was collapsing, to realising I just needed a good burp,
I have found svglib. It seems I have my answer. :)

If this is the way forward (as it seems), then apologies for the post
before properly researching my problem. If it is not, then obviously I
would still like to hear your solutions.
