You need to embed a font which contains Russian characters.
You can either use Type 1 fonts or TrueType.  Then you
need to make sure your string is in the same encoding as
the font you have selected.  See the 'fonts and encodings'
section of the user guide.

This works for terrestrial fonts.  For alienoid
ones you are on your own :-)
