The main hurdle to complete Mac contesting satisfaction are the many small sprints that I love to enter. Most are hosted by various QRP clubs. They don't want cabrillo logs -- they want "standard" log files that are plain text and contain basic information such as time/ date, calls worked, signal report, etc. You can use the print function to print out the MacLoggerDX log. However, this contains everything in the log, which is too much information. It's not an install problem, it is a stuffit expander problem that only happens if you try to expand the archive on the desktop - the files are actually there - they just don't show up in the finder. Yes. There's no third-party software support to do this yet, but all you have to do is run a terminal emulator program on the PC, then send "TT1;" to the K3 (this turns on text-to-terminal). Prince Charles Hear ye, hear ye! Be it known to all present that there are still one or two gentlemen left in this world. I still open car doors for my wife. We've been together for 7 years. My car is 8 years old. I still hold doors open for women. I remove my hat in public places. I still say "sir" and "ma'am". I was raised by a true gentleman (W2INO/W3DYD). Despite the royal status, I am moved to wonder what the statement above says about this prince. I guess our Founding Fathers were right: royal titles make not the man. :-) No offense intended to any fans of royalty, British or otherwise. 1 grain, NaCl -Henry - KB1ERP =================================================================== "We must all turn our backs upon the horrors of the past. As for the track list panel satellite checkboxes coming un-checked, I don't know, I have never seen that happen. Your prefs may have been corrupted. Unexplained crashes or other odd program behaviour that are not widely reported are usually due to a corrupted Prefs file. You might want to try quitting MacDoppler for Cocoa, delete the "~/ Library/Preferences/com.dogparksoftware.MacDoppler.plist" file. You will have to re-enter your call, registration number and site info. 73 Don Agro VE3VRW From dagro at dogparksoftware.com Sat Nov 10 09:43:00 2007 From: dagro at dogparksoftware.com (Don Agro) Date: Sat, 10 Nov 2007 09:43:00 -0500 Subject: [DogParkList] MacLoggerDX 4.3.2 released Message-ID: MacLoggerDX 4.3.2 released Dog Park Software is pleased to announce that version 4.3.2 of MacLoggerDX has been released and can be downloaded from: What's New in this version: * Updated for Leopard * Intermittent crash fixed * Ten-Tec Omni VII S-Meter adjustment * TS-480 S-Meter adjustment * K2+XV50 Driver 50 MHz. * HamCall fix for Hughes ISP * Added 'Include Host in URL' check box in Station Info * New Free Internet lookup format fix * Yaesu FT-450 and FT-950 Drivers added. --------------------------------------------------------- MacLoggerDX logs into your favorite Telnet or TNC DXCluster and as DX Spots are received, tunes your radio to the spot, looks up the call and displays the DX station on the real time grey line Map with distance and bearing from your station. If you decide to work the station, MacLoggerDX is ready to instantly add the QSO and your Radio's VFO information to your log and can swing your beam around to work the station Direct or Long Path. MacLoggerDX supports ADIF Import/Export which is fully compatible with eQSL.cc and the ARRL LoTW. MacLoggerDX looks up calls on the Internet, the new QRZ or HamCall Online premium services, in QRZ CD Roms, on MapQuest, it's internal zipcode database, Dxpedition database, the ARRL country and DX lists, your Log Book and your User Call Book. MacLoggerDX's internal databases are regularly updated instantly over the Internet. With a single key stroke you can see where this QSO is operating from - right down to the street level using MapQuest, Google Maps or Google Earth. Not sure of the call you just heard ? K5ZD Super Check Partial Database Files are there to help you out as you enter a partial call. In the background MacLoggerDX can tune your rig to a pre-arranged schedule or scan list - interrupting the program if something of interest pops up on the DXCluster. MacLoggerDX automatically tracks DXCC, IOTA, WAS, VUCC and CQ WAZ (Worked All Zones) Awards and will even use Mail.app or Eudora to Email you if that rare DX location pops up on the DX Clusters. It has a Bands Display panel which tracks activity by HF Ham Band and lets you quickly tune to the action using a separate VFO slider for each band - as well as VFO Stacking registers for quick recall of interesting frequencies. MacLoggerDX can monitor, decode, lookup and plot APRS packets from APRSServe on the Internet or a connected TNC. You can use the TNC panel to communicate with any serial TNC to monitor and decode APRS traffic, DXCluster Spots or to work any of the digital modes supported by the TNC. See stations pop up on the map in real time as they digipeat APRS packets over the International Space Station. MacLoggerDX features popup selection of multiple logs, searching and sorting based on any log field, automatic one-click generation of eQSL Cards, fast and easy printing of logs, envelopes, QSL Cards and bulk address labels, unlimited user-customizeable memories, Drag and Drop Scan List with adjustable delay, UTC scheduled events that automatically switch between summer, winter, weekend and weekday schedules, an integrated CW keyer (OS X) and drivers for over 70 popular Amateur Radio Transceivers and SWL Receivers as well as multi- radio quick-select preferences for switching quickly and easily between multiple rigs. MacLoggerDX can also sync your rig with the NCDXF/IARU Propagation Beacon Network for empirical propagation status displayed in real-time on the world map. MacLoggerDX is fully integrated with MacDopplerPRO X for logging of satellite QSO's and with Apple's OS X Address Book for quick adds of lookup data. --------------------------------------------------------- Requirements * Mac OS 9 with CarbonLib 1.6 or Mac OS X. * Internet connection for Telnet DXClusters. and/or * Radio & TNC for Packet DXClusters. I normally keep my log sorted by log number. I've noticed that when I log a contact it shows up at the opposite end of the list and the list moves so that the new entry and the oldest entries are visible, regardless of whether I sort ascending or descending. If I swap to another pane and back then nothing but the oldest entries are visible since the log is still scrolled to that end but now it's resorted the new entry to where it should be. If I click on the column heading then it resorts with all the newest visible either at the bottom or top of the list (opposite of where it was previously). All this is predictable and manageable, but it would be better if the new entry was inserted where it should be in the list and no change in the view was otherwise effected or required. I am using the latest version that I just downloaded today (and was previously using the most recent full release). 73, --de Chip (N1MIE) FN41bn -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... This is covered in the FAQ... "I have noticed that the record numbers are reversed in the log. In other words, my first QSO has been numbered as last number, and there is no record number "0001". is this OK ? Yes, the first record in the file is the header and of no practical use except when editing log.dat in a spread sheet program. The record numbers are not important, they are not stored in the file. They describe the order of the records in the file, but you can display the log sorted by any field. Click on the column header to sort by that field, click again to reverse the order. Most commonly people sort by the QSO start time. By default the log is arranged in order of QSO with the last QSO being added to the end of the file. Every time the log is re-written it will be written in the order that you have chosen to sort it in. The log is re-written when you delete an entry." 73 Don Agro VE3VRW D o g P a r k S o f t w a r e L t d . email: dagro at dogparksoftware.com www: http://www.dogparksoftware.com iChat AV:dogpark at mac.com From EZRhino at fastmovers.biz Sat Nov 10 19:48:06 2007 From: EZRhino at fastmovers.biz (EZ Rhino) Date: Sat, 10 Nov 2007 17:48:06 -0700 Subject: [DogParkList] contest helper locks up Message-ID: <5DD33771-BC3C-454B-ACAB-84F98FB846F9@fastmovers.biz> I've noticed some quirks with the contest helper window. Then I can open the "lookup" script and click "run" and it will complete the lookup in MLDX. Very nice. Notice there is a "log" button on the QSO info bar which will run that script (logs the QSO in MLDX); I don't have to open that script separately to make it work, since the script is "pointed to" from within CM (and there is a button there for this purpose). I'm strongly suspect you misunderstood my premise. I know that there is no record #1. Odd to me, but known. I know that the record number is not important. When I sort by recordnumber, my preferred sort, there is a very odd method of screen update. If I sort by date, things behave as they should, except that the log is not sorted in the order in which it was produced (the record number is always the order in which entries were made to the log). What you seem to be saying is that no matter what your inclination, disregard the record number. 73, --de Chip (N1MIE) FN41bn -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Most people sort by QSO date and time, but you can of course sort by any header you like. "The Rec# field cannot be edited because it indicates the actual position of the record in the log file. The Rec#'s will change each time you delete a record or Update Selected Log Entries." > there is a very odd method of screen update. Do you think so ? > If I sort by date, things behave as they should, except that the log > is not sorted in the order in which it was produced (the record > number is always the order in which entries were made to the log). No, this is incorrect, the log is re-written when you edit or delete and the record number is not stored in the log. Again, the record numbers only indicate the record's position in the file at that moment and the same QSO record will not have the same record number later. > What you seem to be saying is that no matter what your inclination, > disregard the record number. Exactly, it is only useful to select if you want to delete that record, or to sort by if you want a total count of records. As you can see from the log file itself and it's description: There are no record numbers in the file. There are 36 tab-delimited fields on each line and none of them are record number. 73 Don Agro VE3VRW From wa6l at mac.com Mon Nov 12 11:02:33 2007 From: wa6l at mac.com (John Graf) Date: Mon, 12 Nov 2007 08:02:33 -0800 Subject: [DogParkList] TQSL Message-ID: <2A58A272-1307-423A-8F27-B2C4A0D12136@mac.com> This is not a MacLoggerDX issue per se, but I wanted to see if anyone else has run into this problem. I haven't yet updated to Leopard but has anyone used the remote control of Mac through the facilities in there (e.g. via iChat or Back to my mac & dot mac) to do it? Not long had legal remote operation in the UK licence but I guess others have elsewhere and are further ahead on this. Alternatively, although I know Don probably doesn't need any more ideas for MLDX development but hypothetically would there be any wider interest here in MLDX additional features to support remote operation more specifically either within it or perhaps an add-on (extra remote client to purchase for instance) or a secure web browser interface back to the main client app? Or anyone have other ideas for solutions? Just a thought during the holiday season. And a public thanks for all the support and great apps (MLDX & MacDoppler) to Don. 73 Jonathan G0DVJ -- From dagro at dogparksoftware.com Sun Dec 23 15:16:37 2007 From: dagro at dogparksoftware.com (Don Agro) Date: Sun, 23 Dec 2007 15:16:37 -0500 Subject: [DogParkList] Remote operation with MLDX? I would also like to hear from other folks that are trying it. What I have done so far is to use Skype for remote PSK-31. In my shack, I have the audio in and out connected to my Powerbook. I have a Skype account that auto-answers (but only my other account). At the remote site (my work) I have another Skype account. I call my home computer and the audio comes across pretty well. I then feed it into Cocoamodem and can run PSK remotely. PSK is particularly easy to do this way, you don't have to change frequencies remotely. You do need one additional utility called "Soundflower." This allows you to route from Skype to Cocoamodem and visa-versa. It is free and downloadable from the Internet. The next project is to come up with a remote serial port server so that I can control MacLoggerDx as well. That would allow me to change bands and frequencies, and open up SSB as well as other digital modes. Using Cocoamodem, you would also be able to run CW! I have found some Unix-based solutions for the remote serial port server, but they are relatively complex and I haven't figure it out yet. Of course, you could easily use a remote desktop solution such as Timbuktu or Apple Remote Desktop. That way you could run MacLoggerDX on your home machine. I've tried this, and for me it is just too slow. But your mileage may vary. 73 and good luck, John, WA6L On Dec 23, 2007, at 12:13 PM, Jonathan G0DVJ wrote: > > Hi from Europe (Seasons greetings), > > I was just wondering while visiting inlaws during this festive > season whether anyone here has used MLDX (perhaps with Skype) to do > remote operation of their shack ? At the time I had a kenwood TS-2000X in the shack. I wanted to operate the shack form the hotel in the evenings to get on 160 and chat with the boys back home. I ended up using Ham Radio deluxe for rig control and Skype for audio. The only reason I went with HRD and the PC platform was for the rig control. I couldn't find a better app on the mac for that. Skype did the right thing, you can setup the client to auto answer from a particular party. I then opened up RDP port on my router and used DNYDNS.org. Now here is the cool part. From the hotel room in LA, I sat in the room with my PowerBook G4 on the wireless network and my USB headset. I then used Microsoft Remote Desktop connection and opened a connection back home to the PC. Once in, I had full control of the 2000. Then, started skype, connected to my 2nd account and boom! I was ready to go! It worked so well that no one ever knew I was 3K miles away. I got excellent audio reports. BTW, if you choose to go the mac route for remote connection I recommend: http://www.jinx.de/JollysFastVNC.html I like it much better than the other VNC clients, this one is considerably faster. 73 and good luck! AppleRemoteDesktop (and Chicken of the VNC) are VERY fast on Leopard (limited by your upstream internet connection) I use ARD daily and starting with Leopard the graphics transmission has been drastically improved (much the way motion jpeg works) and it is now very usable interactively. It used to be a real trick to try and capture an application in the dock - but know it is very easy to use. 73 Don Agro VE3VRW D o g P a r k S o f t w a r e L t d . email: dagro at dogparksoftware.com www: http://www.dogparksoftware.com iChat AV:dogpark at mac.com From jawod at fuse.net Mon Dec 24 11:21:55 2007 From: jawod at fuse.net (John Wiener) Date: Mon, 24 Dec 2007 11:21:55 -0500 Subject: [DogParkList] difficulty starting Cocoamodem 2.0 Message-ID: <61F828E9-8AB0-43A5-9D43-E4FC0617C761@fuse.net> Hi I've recently loaded some Mac upgrades and a few Firefox upgrades. Only problem is you have to sel line in as the input in SSB for the K3 to pick up the voice keyer. Obviously this could be flipped with a PF key or using the direct command mode in MLDX, but if MLDX coulld be modified to allow us to send a CAT command before and after the Voice Keyer is enabled, that would be very nice. Now of course, I'd like all the possible functionality that the K3 CAT command set can provide! In theroy this is every function of the radio. Don has said in the past that the Kenwood had the largest command set, the K3 may top it now. I'll happerily beta test MLDX using more CAT commands to K3 if/when Don has time to add more. I made the transition some time ago. For me the main problem has always been, I try to make things harder than they are by approaching the Apple computer as if it were a PC. If you are connected to the Internet - then your Mac's ports are configured correctly. I assume you sent the e-mail from your new Mac - so that suggest the problem is not the Mac. Normally, if you have System Preferences/Network/ set to Automatic your Mac will find the Internet and allow you to use such programs as EchoMac (the Mac Echolink program). When you launch the program - what happens? Be sure to select Online. If you see the list of Echolink stations, then you were able to Login, and your account and application have been established and are working correctly. Try connecting to another Echolink station. If you cannot connect to another Echolink station most likely you have a problem with a firewall, router port configuration, or ISP port access. So, again, tell us what happens when you try to use EchoMac.
