I (for the 1st time) registered to eqsl.cc. I have a number of eQSL's waiting for me. How do I import the "digital QSL" into MLDX? I see screenshots of a callsign with the eqsl icon next to it but not sure how you import them from eqsl.cc. 2. Are eQSL's "Legal Tender" In other words If I finish a QSO can I just email the eqsl from MLDX right to that person? Does this count for all the ARRL awards? 3. Printing QSL cards from MLDX. I have been printing QSL's right from MLDX and love it. I have been printing 1 card at a time then turning the paper around and printing another card on the far end of the paper to try to have less waste. It seems that one could technically print 3 QSL cards on a single 8.5 X 11 sheet. Is this function in MLDX? 4. Multiple logs. OK here is my dilemma, I was active from the state of Maine for about 10 years (87-97) especially on 2M SSB. Large number of Grids and states from FN54. I now live in NY (FN31) and getting back on the air after being QRT for 10 years. VUCC states that if your contacts are farther than 150 miles the FN54 contacts are no longer valid from FN31. So, I am starting all over again. I have all my logs from Maine (In a separate MLDX file) and I started a new file from here in NY. If I merge the 2 logs together I get all my DXCC, WAS etc. but all my VUCC data will be combined and not valid. Any ideas on how to get around this? OK, thats it for now. Once I get very comfortable and familiar with MLDX I look forward to contributing ideas and comments. Thanks! Rather than tell you what to do, I'll just tell you what I do and you can decide if that approach makes sense to you. I've been using eQSL for some time. I upload my log from MLDX periodically and have been working towards the awards. I do not try to move data back _from_ eQSL into MLDX. So, I'm not trying to capture the QSL card images or otherwise capture any information eQSL might hold (such as marking QSO entries in MLDX indicating that I've received an eQSL, for example). It _is_ possible to have eQSL create a downloadable ADIF file for you from the contents of your "out box". This makes a nice back-up of your log! > 2. Are eQSL's "Legal Tender" In other words If I finish a > QSO can I just email the eqsl from MLDX right to that > person? Does this count for all the ARRL awards? No. The good folks at eQSL worked the ARRL (as I understand it) and bent over backwards to try to make eQSL be the electronic arm for the ARRL. In the end, the ARRL decided it would be better if they did their own. 3. Printing QSL cards from MLDX. I have been printing > QSL's right from MLDX and love it. I should let Don Argo (MLDX developer) answer this, but in short: Don is currently revamping MacLoggerDX so it can be up-to-date with the latest Apple developer strategy. (Specifically, he's converting MLDX into a Cocoa application so it can run natively on both PPC architectures and on Intel chips). Until he's done with this conversion, he'll not consider any specific feature requests. So, hold on to your good ideas for now. > 4. So, I have one for home, St. John USVI, Hawaii, Deer Isle Maine, etc. I have created separate accounts within eQSL and LotW for each location, too. Once you've set up one location, it is very easy to create new locations in both services. I have been careful to keep things separate--and both eQSL and LotW are set up to help me do that. Each location has a particular grid square, IOTA number, state, DXCC entity, etc., so awards calculations are easy for the software. So, I'm working towards eWAS and WAS from all my locations, for example. Each effort is tracked separately by the software because I've got multiple locations within each account. > OK, thats it for now. If you decide to work the station, MacLoggerDX is ready to instantly add the QSO and your Radio's VFO information to your log and can swing your beam around to work the station Direct or Long Path. MacLoggerDX supports ADIF Import/Export which is fully compatible with eQSL.cc and the ARRL LoTW. MacLoggerDX looks up calls on the Internet, the new QRZ or HamCall Online premium services, in QRZ CD Roms, on MapQuest, it's internal zipcode database, Dxpedition database, the ARRL country and DX lists, your Log Book and your User Call Book. MacLoggerDX's internal databases are regularly updated instantly over the Internet. With a single key stroke you can see where this QSO is operating from - right down to the street level using MapQuest, Google Maps or Google Earth. Not sure of the call you just heard ? K5ZD Super Check Partial Database Files are there to help you out as you enter a partial call. In the background MacLoggerDX can tune your rig to a pre-arranged schedule or scan list - interrupting the program if something of interest pops up on the DXCluster. MacLoggerDX automatically tracks DXCC, IOTA, WAS, VUCC and CQ WAZ (Worked All Zones) Awards and will even use Mail.app or Eudora to Email you if that rare DX location pops up on the DX Clusters. It has a Bands Display panel which tracks activity by HF Ham Band and lets you quickly tune to the action using a separate VFO slider for each band - as well as VFO Stacking registers for quick recall of interesting frequencies. MacLoggerDX can monitor, decode, lookup and plot APRS packets from APRSServe on the Internet or a connected TNC. You can use the TNC panel to communicate with any serial TNC to monitor and decode APRS traffic, DXCluster Spots or to work any of the digital modes supported by the TNC. See stations pop up on the map in real time as they digipeat APRS packets over the International Space Station. MacLoggerDX features popup selection of multiple logs, searching and sorting based on any log field, automatic one-click generation of eQSL Cards, fast and easy printing of logs, envelopes, QSL Cards and bulk address labels, unlimited user-customizeable memories, Drag and Drop Scan List with adjustable delay, UTC scheduled events that automatically switch between summer, winter, weekend and weekday schedules, an integrated CW keyer (OS X) and drivers for over 70 popular Amateur Radio Transceivers and SWL Receivers as well as multi- radio quick-select preferences for switching quickly and easily between multiple rigs. MacLoggerDX can also sync your rig with the NCDXF/IARU Propagation Beacon Network for empirical propagation status displayed in real- time on the world map. MacLoggerDX is fully integrated with MacDopplerPRO X for logging of satellite QSO's and with Apple's OS X Address Book for quick adds of lookup data. --------------------------------------------------------- Requirements * Mac OS 9 with CarbonLib 1.6 or Mac OS X. * Internet connection for Telnet DXClusters. and/or * Radio & TNC for Packet DXClusters. This is a stuffit expander problem that only happens if you try to expand the archive on the desktop - the files are actually there - they just don't show up in the finder. You can either move the archive somewhere else off of the desktop and expand it there, or create a dummy folder in the expanded MacLoggerDX folder, delete the dummy folder, and then all the files will show up. 73 Don Agro VE3VRW D o g P a r k S o f t w a r e L t d . email: dagro@dogparksoftware.com www: http://www.dogparksoftware.com iChat AV:dogpark@mac.com From jeff at ke9v.net Tue Jul 25 19:03:31 2006 From: jeff at ke9v.net (Jeff Davis) Date: Tue Jul 25 19:03:35 2006 Subject: [DogParkList] 4.2.? Any > way to get around this and restore my sanity? As long as you save the correction to the grid square in the log entry, subsequent lookups will derive the location from the corrected entry. You can tell for sure if the "Loc:" field displays "Log GS" (Log Grid Square) instead of "Call" or whatever other method was being used to fix the location. Make sure that all the log entries and user call book entries for EI9JO have IO41VW set as the corrected grid square. Here is the section of the manual which deals with this... Here is how MacLoggerDX determines Map position for a call/prefix: 1. MacLoggerDX resolves all call signs to the DXCC country level using the data published in the ARRL Operating guide subject to special issue call overrides in dxpeditions.dat "Locator: Country". 2. bearings.dat resolves specific prefix based locations - "Locator: Call". 3. QRZ lookup may provide a zip code which can be resolved by zip.dat which has the entire US 1999 census zip to post office latitude and longitude data "Locator: US Zip". 4. cities.dat has entries where if the city is known and found the latitude and longitude can be resolved "Locator: City". 5. If the call is in either your log, or your user call book, that location data is found in a lookup "Locator: Log GS". 6. APRS position reports will of course supersede all the above for location data "Locator: APRS". 7. If Internet Lookup is enabled and if there is a grid square or Latitude and Longitude data provided on the Internet this will be used "Locator: iNet GS", "Locator: iNet LL", this is uaually the most accurate since the operator has provided this data himself. 73 Don Agro VE3VRW D o g P a r k S o f t w a r e L t d . email: dagro@dogparksoftware.com www: http://www.dogparksoftware.com iChat AV:dogpark@mac.com From dagro at dogparksoftware.com Fri Jul 28 13:49:38 2006 From: dagro at dogparksoftware.com (Don Agro) Date: Fri Jul 28 14:06:21 2006 Subject: [DogParkList] MacLoggerDX and Montenegro Message-ID: Hi, After receiving numerous emails on the subject here is the low-down on Montenegro and MacLoggerDX... 4O3T will log as Montenegro in version 4.2.6 of MacLoggerDX if you log it as "4O3T-M" otherwise 4O3T without the suffix will log as Serbia. This goes for all the former Serbia and Montenegro calls... 4N-4O, YT-YU, YZ When (and if) Montenegro is assigned a new block of calls then no suffix will be necessary. Here is the section of the manual that covers Overlapping DXCC Identities ... Overlapping DXCC Identities and Call Suffixes There are a number of cases where a station's call sign does not uniquely identify it's DXCC ID. For example ZK1 can be North Cook Island or South Cook Island. To handle cases like this MacLoggerDX employs a suffix. To indicate the call you are looking up or logging is North Cook Island append "-N" to the call sign: ZK1ASQ-N, to indicate South Cook Island append "-S" to the call sign: ZK1ASQ-S. These suffixes are dropped on export to ADIF (so as not to confuse the LoTW). The suffixes are shown in the Awards Panel/DXCC. The suffix sould be appended to the portable prefix not the base call, for example "FO-A/DL3GA" logs as Austral Island. To edit a previously logged call and add or change the suffix You just have to edit the Call field in the Log Panel, delete the Country field, press the "Save" button and then the "Reload" button to see the change take effect. MacLoggerDX also employs a dxpeditions.dat file to identify special issue calls for dxpeditions like "K8T". Dxpeditions.dat is one of the files that can be updated over the Internet. 73 Don Agro VE3VRW D o g P a r k S o f t w a r e L t d . email: dagro@dogparksoftware.com www: http://www.dogparksoftware.com iChat AV:dogpark@mac.com From dagro at dogparksoftware.com Fri Jul 28 20:18:30 2006 From: dagro at dogparksoftware.com (Don Agro) Date: Fri Jul 28 20:20:23 2006 Subject: [DogParkList] USB Plug N Play USB to Rs232 Message-ID: Hi, Is anyone familiar with the "USB Plug N Play USB to Rs232" USB/Serial adapter ? I've scoured every computer shop I know of (both on and off-line) and none have either the KeySpan or IOGear brands. So, following the good advice on the Dogpark web page I tried this driver: http://sourceforge.net/projects/osx-pl2303/ ..with the only brand I could find ("Sweex"), and, although it is PL2303-based, the driver apparently does not recognise the vendor. In former Yugoslavia Montenegro has had number 3 and 6. So, if you will find now on band 4N-4O, Yt-YU, YZ with "3" or "6" it will be Montenegro till new prefix. Now you can work 4O3T from Kotor Peninsula and YU6AO from Pristina. I think it is time to finish with additional letter to callsign like 4O...-M for Montenegro (when we know that 4O4.. never will be Montenegro) or FT...-K for Kerguelen Is. (when we know that Kerguelen Is is FT5X..) or 3Y0...-P for Peter I (when we know that it is only one possibility to operate from Bouvet Is. or Peter I Is. trough big expedition). MacLoggerDX should help us with our memory. With "-M", "-K", "-P" we have to help MLDX. Currently if you register as k3nc then k3nc/p k3nc/mm etc. will all also work with the registration module but the base call k3nc is still what is sent to the dxcluster login routines. Even if I strip out SSID's in the registration process the same base call k3nc will still get sent to the dxcluster login. I don't have any problem registering your call with a SSID if that is what you want. 73 Don Agro VE3VRW D o g P a r k S o f t w a r e L t d . email: dagro@dogparksoftware.com www: http://www.dogparksoftware.com iChat AV:dogpark@mac.com From Lee at kf2pc.org Tue Aug 29 22:11:03 2006 From: Lee at kf2pc.org (Lee J. So, I don?t know morse yet and so no point in me tuning to a CW DX, but setting up a cluster filter for that is not simple, so if I could tell MLDX I?m not interested in CW spots (or Digital spots or whatever) and have it use its band plans to determine it, that would be very good. -- One can pay back the loan of gold, but one dies forever in debt to those who are kind. -Malayan Proverb -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
