PARASHAT PEKUDEI: Moses instructs Aaron’s son Itamar to conduct an
accounting of the materials used for the building of the mishkan, the
portable yet holy Meeting Place between God and Moses. The making of the
priestly vestments is described. Once all of the work has been completed,
the mishkan and its furnishings are brought to Moses and he blesses the
people who made them. God instructs Moses to set up the mishkan, to anoint
it and its contents, and to consecrate Aaron and his sons. The cloud
representing God’s presence fills the mishkan, lifting up from it when it is
time for the Israelites to set out on their journeys.

If there is a God, Lior is definitely closer to God than anyone else I
know."
-- Yoni Liebling, Lior's brother

An engrossing, wrenching and tender documentary film, PRAYING WITH LIOR,
introduces Lior Liebling, also called "the little rebbe." Lior has Down
Syndrome, and has spent his

entire life praying with utter abandon. Is he a "spiritual genius" as many
around him say? Or simply the vessel that contains everyone’s unfulfilled
wishes and expectations? Lior – whose name

means "my light" — lost his mother at age six, and her words and spirit
hover over the film. While everyone agrees Lior is closer to God, he’s also
a burden, a best friend, an inspiration, and an embarrassment, depending on
which family member is speaking. As Lior approaches Bar Mitzvah, the Jewish
coming-of-age ceremony, different characters provide a window into life
spent "praying with Lior." The movie poses difficult questions such as what
is "disability" and who really talks to God? Told with intimacy and humor,
PRAYING WITH LIOR is a family story,

a triumph story, a grief story, a divinely-inspired story, a documentary
about a young man with Down Syndrome who is a charismatic prayer leader.

We are excited to announce that a block of tickets for the March 30th
screening of PRAYING WITH LIOR at the West Orange JCC has been

reserved for us. Many thanks to Lori Schor for arranging these tickets and
for volunteering to coordinate the purchase and distribution of tickets.

What a wonderful way for B’nai Israel to demonstrate, as a community, that
this is a way of life we all support!

To reserve your tickets, please contact Lori Schor at 973-464-8484 or
lorschor at aol.com. There are a limited number of seats available.

SEE YOU AT THE MOVIES!

News from USCJ's Israel Commission

& The Conservative Movement's

Israel 60th Anniversary Committee

A Message From Rabbi Paul Freedman

USCJ's Director for Israel Outreach

Last June, I met in Jerusalem with United Synagogue's president, Dr. Ray
Goldstein; its vice president for Israel, Dr. Saul Shapiro; its executive
director, Rabbi Jerome Epstein and Rabbi Jim Lebeau, the director of United
Synagogue's Fuchsberg Jerusalem Center. We decided to offer both delegations
from congregations and individual synagogue members a number of activities
and services when they visit Israel.

After many more meetings, we came up with the opportunities listed below. As
you can see, we have gotten the full participation of the
Masorti/Conservative organizations in Israel, and we are enormously proud of
that.

What do we ask of you?

First, please circulate this information as widely as you can, keeping in
mind that we can offer programs and suggestions to individual travelers as
well as to congregational missions.

Next, let us know if there is anyone you'd like me to reach out to
personally with information or an offer of support.

Here is a link to the website the Conservative movement has dedicated to
information about Israel's 60th birthday :
rsary.org/index2.html> http://www.israelanniversary.org/index2.html. On that
website you can find a link to the document below – it's here:

-- along with much more information about how to celebrate Israel at 60.

If you or anyone else has any questions, please get in touch with me, and
please be sure to let me know what you do in response to this material.
